End-of-Life Services

Dignity for your pet until the end

Making the emotional decision for End-of-Life services

Being a pet owner is a life-changing experience, and the bond you share with your companion is filled with love, comfort, and devotion. Part of that love is knowing when it鈥檚 time to prevent unnecessary suffering, whether an animal is gravely ill, severely injured, or simply unable to enjoy their everyday life due to age or declining health.

Animal Care Centers of NYC offers low-cost, humane euthanasia services for clients whose income may prevent access to private veterinary care.

Our Commitment to Comfort and Compassion

Our licensed veterinarians and Certified Euthanasia Technicians ensure every animal鈥檚 experience is as peaceful and stress-free as possible. We always follow American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) , which means:

  • All pets receive a gentle sedative first, helping them relax and fall asleep
  • Euthanasia is performed quickly and painlessly, through an IV injection
  • In extremely rare cases, if IV is not possible due to a medical condition, pets are anesthetized and completely unconscious before any alternative method is used. This protocol aligns with the standards of care for certified euthanasia technicians, licensed vet technicians and veterinarians.
  • Every step prioritizes the pet鈥檚 comfort, dignity, and emotional wellbeing

What Pet Owners Should Know

We understand how difficult this moment is. In our shelter setting, we are not able to accommodate requests for guardians to be present during the procedure.
If you wish to stay with your pet through euthanasia, we recommend scheduling with your primary veterinarian.

We do not provide private burial or cremation options.

If You Need Support

Making the choice to say goodbye is never easy. Our staff is here to support you with compassion and respect as you consider what is best for your pet.

If your pet is suffering from a medical condition that you believe warrants these end of life services we ask that you:

01 Bring any medical records available

02 Bring any medication the pet has been prescribed

These services provided during the following hours:

Everyday 10:00 am – 4:30 pm
Please call: 212-788-4000 (extension #9) to schedule an appointment so that we can ensure that we attend to the needs of both you and your animal in the most expedient manner possible.
